We Deal With the Emerald Ash Borer

The emerald ash borer (EAB) originated in Northeastern Asia but was discovered in Michigan in 2002. The invasive insect species has since spread across the United States where it has devastated local populations of green ash, white ash, black ash, blue ash, and Carolina ash.

The EAB kills ash trees by tunneling beneath their bark and eating the wood which transports water and sugars throughout their trunks. It can kill 75% of ash trees in areas where it is present in a period as short as three years. The EAB has killed over 100 million American ash trees to date!

Trees killed by the EAB quickly become brittle and fragile and are likely to topple during storms. EAB eradication is presently impossible, although its impact on ash trees can be managed to minimize the threat of property damage, personal injury, and tree loss.

As Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa’s resident ISA Certified Arborists, Thate’s Tree Service is standing by to proactively remove trees that have been killed or critically weakened by EAB, as well as protect healthy trees against infestation. We additionally create effective EAB management plans and inspect trees for signs of EAB infestation. Contact us today to learn why the EAB hates Thate’s!
